No. Every tool processes files locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
Is it free?
Yes — every tool in the toolbox is free to use, with no account required.
Which formats are supported?
Images: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG, AVIF, ICO, TIFF. Video: MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI, MPG, M4V, 3GP. Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, WMA. Documents: DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, ODT, ODS, ODP. Archives: ZIP, TAR, GZ, TAR.GZ. 7Z extraction is coming soon.
Why didn't my file get much smaller?
Some files are already well compressed. When a tool can't meaningfully reduce a file, it tells you so instead of pretending — and lets you keep the original.
Does video compression need the internet?
The FFmpeg engine (about 25 MB) is downloaded once from a CDN the first time you compress a video or audio file. Your actual media files never leave your device.

Your files stay on your device whenever processing is performed locally — and in ShrinkIt, that is always.
How each tool processes files
- Images — decoded, resized and re-encoded by your browser's own Canvas API. Fully local.
- Videos & Audio — processed by FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, running inside your browser tab. Fully local.
- PDFs — rendered by pdf.js and rebuilt with pdf-lib, both running in your browser. Fully local.
- Documents — opened and re-compressed with JSZip in your browser. Fully local.
- Archives — created and extracted with JSZip and fflate in your browser. Fully local.
What is downloaded (and what isn't)
Some tools load their processing engine from a public CDN the first time you use them: the FFmpeg WebAssembly engine (about 25 MB) for video and audio, and the pdf.js/pdf-lib libraries for PDFs. These downloads contain program code only — never your files. Once loaded, they are cached by your browser and work offline.
Your files themselves are processed entirely in your browser's memory. They are never transmitted to us or to any third-party service, and no accounts or tracking are involved.
What we don't do
- We don't upload your files to a server.
- We don't require accounts or sign-ins.
- We don't run analytics or trackers.
